Many new flats come with what people call “builder-grade” interiors—functional but bland. The bones are there, but nothing feels special. The good thing is, you can upgrade gradually without breaking everything.
Focus first on the kitchen and lighting. Swapping basic cabinet handles, adding better hinges, or installing smoother drawer channels makes daily use feel more premium. Under-cabinet lighting instantly lifts the look and makes cooking easier.
In the bathrooms, upgrading taps, showerheads and mirrors brings a hotel-like feel even with the same tiles. A framed mirror, better storage under the basin, and a sleek shower mixer can change the vibe.
Builder-provided light fixtures are usually very basic. Replacing a few key ones with nicer pendants, spotlights or stylish ceiling lights in the living and dining areas adds personality immediately.
You can also use wall treatments—a feature wall with paint, wallpaper, or wooden slats behind the TV or bed helps break the “boxy” builder look.
Take it area by area. You don’t need to rip out floors or tiles right away. Even small upgrades, done thoughtfully, can make a builder-grade flat feel personally designed.
